Other Ways You Can Help

There are a number of ways you could help the Hospice make each day a little better for those who have a terminal illness, these are listed below.

Volunteers

Volunteers are an integral part of the hospice team. Most volunteers are involved in practical ways such as housekeeping support, gardening, shops and administration. Some volunteers have been specifically trained to work with our professional staff in providing companionship care and support to the patients of hospice in the day group centre, in the patients home or as bereavement carers. If you would like to join our volunteer team please call (09) 486 1688 or contact us here.

Opportunity Shops

The Hospice operates eight opportunity shops on the North Shore and Rodney District. The shops are located in Takapuna, Glenfield, Browns Bay, Birkenhead, Beachaven, Albany, Wellsford and Warkworth, they are staffed by a Manager and a team of volunteers. The income generated from these shops goes directly to providing high quality palliative care and plays a critical part in helping us to provide our Hospice services. We are always looking for donations of goods that can be sold through the shops.

If you have used clothing or household goods or furniture you would like to donate to the Hospice, please call our (09) 486 1688. We can also arrange to collect in some areas.

If you would like to volunteer to help in any of the shops or if you would like more information on this area of fundraising, please contact Barbara Moss on (09) 486 1688 or contact us here.

Fundraising Committees

Because the Hospice needs to generate of 50% of it’s operational income from fundraising activities, we need people to help plan and run special events. Our Events Co-ordinator often seeks support of people to help just on the day of a special event and our Fundraising Events Committee always needs those who could help with planning and organising the events that they are responsible for. Events include dinners, auctions, an annual house tour, tennis and golf tournaments, movie nights and functions with special celebrities. If you would like to join a committee or help with any of our events please contact Rosemary Hutcheson, Events Co-ordinator on (09) 486 1688 or rosemaryh@nshospice.org.nz

Sponsorship

One of the key areas in which Hospice needs help is sponsorship from individuals and businesses. Financial sponsorship enables the Hospice to fund events that generate income for our hospice palliative care services. Sponsorship also helps defray the costs of producing fundraising material. Sponsorship is available at a variety of levels such as placing an ad in our newsletter or sponsoring our annual golf and tennis tournaments. If you would like to know more about sponsorship opportunities please contact us here.

We hope to see you at one of these functions during the year.
