When a child dies
Parents feel a vital part of their very being has died too. Many different feelings and emotions may be experienced. These feelings may include: disbelief, denial, anger, guilt, profound sorrow, loneliness, fear about the future, or anxiety about your other children. In the beginning these feelings may change rapidly, and very likely will impact on the simplest everyday activities like sleeping and eating. These feelings are all part of the emotional journey called "grief" and can differ from individual to individual.
When a child dies
Family and friends often struggle with knowing how to help. The need seems so great, and it is common for people to feel they are inadequate in what they can do personally for their friend or family member. Sadly too, this is a time when the friends and family can misunderstand the needs for the grieving parents. Often the grieving parents simply need to be listened to and that is where the Bereaved parents Group can help.
When a child dies
The Bereaved Parents Group is here to offer support as you need it. There are a group of parents who know and understand what it is like to have a child die. The informal group has no religious affiliations: they are just a group of people offering quiet support and understanding to any bereaved parent. Our sorrow has softened, and we have found fresh hope and strength for living.
The Bereaved Parents Group knows there is no miracle cure for the grieving, but offers comfort and the consolation that bereaved parents can find healing and hope for the future. The group is open to any Bereaved Parent not only those associated with Hospice.
We meet on the second Wednesday of each month from 7.00 to 9.00 at North Shore Hospice.
